You may have read in other articles here at SPY.TV but there are 57 satellites are beaming channels down to North and South America.  Many of these satellites have free channels available for you to watch.  If you want access to all that is available then you will need a free-to-air system that includes a satellite motor.  This motor is self-powered from the receivers satellite cable and attaches to the satellite dish.  The motor is referred by many names like dish motor, dish antenna rotor, or diseqc motor (pronounced “die-sec”)  It’s short-form for: Digital Satellite Equipment Control.  DiSEqC is a special communication protocol for use between an FTA satellite receiver and a device such as a dish motor.

Now that you understand to get all the channels possible and new channels in the future, you need the ability to move the dish to any satellite you choose.  That is why we mostly recommend a motorized FTA satellite system.

The main pieces of a motorized FTA satellite system would include:

1. FTA Receiver

2. 36″ Dish (90cm)

3. Linear LNB

4. Dish Motor

5. RG6 cable to connect the LNB to Motor and then Motor to Receiver

During a typical motorized FTA install you’ll also need a few tools like a level and compass.

The great advantage of a motorized FTA satellite system is once the system is connected and you located one satellite during the installation, the receiver will automatically locate the other satellites east and west from your main satellite.  The motor is self-powered, so there is no need to plug it in.  It’s even weather-proof (hot, cold, rain, snow).  From inside your home you can turn the system on, select a channel you want to watch and the dish will quickly move to that satellite unless it’s alerady on that satellite.
